This has become more and more common due to the increased awareness of the unique healing function of stem cells. Cellaviva, Scandinavia’s largest stem cell bank, makes it easier for you to store your child’s stem cells – Here you can read about how it works.

For more than 3 years, Cellaviva has helped future parents in Denmark to secure stem cells at birth – for the child and the family’s future medical use. The process is simple, straightforward and above all safe.

Collection of stem cells

We always have a midwife present at the hospital at birth

Cellaviva’s midwife takes care of the collection of the stem cells from the umbilical cord and the placenta. A midwife with whom you have contact for support and guidance from the time you order the Cellaviva box. Although our customers explain that they see stem cell storage as a kind of insurance, it is our midwives that the families mention with incredible warmth. I am so proud of my colleagues and the work they do, says Sofie Falk Jansson, Marketing & Sales Director at Cellaviva.

The function of stem cells

Therefore, you should consider storing stem cells from the umbilical cord

Stem cells are immature cells that have not yet specialized. Their natural function is to detect damaged and dysfunctional cells in the body and begin a healing and renewal process. After a birth, when the umbilical cord is cut, a number of different stem cells are found in the umbilical cord. The same powerful stem cells that help your baby develop organs, blood, tissues and an immune system as it grows in the womb. Therefore, it is not surprising that they are currently used in treatment in several different disease areas, including in the treatment of over 80 serious diseases, such as leukemia and a number of rare inherited blood diseases.

Stem cells are found in different places in the body, for example in bone marrow and in fat tissue. But even stem cells age along with our bodies. The reason you want to save them as early as possible is because that’s when they’re at their most powerful. Stem cells from the umbilical cord are also more flexible and adaptable, ie. easier to match in a transplant than, for example, stem cells from bone marrow.

An investment for the future

With just a few simple steps

01

Order

The Cellaviva box contains all the medical equipment the midwife needs for collecting stem cells from your child's umbilical cord. A few weeks before the due date, you will be contacted by your Cellaviva midwife who will inform you about the process. When the birth starts, contact the Cellaviva hotline, and your Cellaviva midwife will come directly to the hospital and collect the stem cells after the birth. The only thing you and your partner need to concentrate on is the newest addition to your family.

02

Collection

The collection is done without intervention, you are simply collecting a valuable waste product that would otherwise have been thrown away.

Once the collection is complete, it is sent by medical courier to Cellaviva's laboratory, where rigorous quality controls, processes and analyses of the stem cells are carried out.

03

Freeze

For three months, we grow and isolate the stem cells before freezing them for long-term storage in our stem cell bank. We handle our customers' stem cells in the same way as when we supply donated stem cells for clinical trials or for treatment. In this way, we ensure that the cells frozen by the customer are viable and of the highest quality.

Do not let the stem cells go to waste

If you choose Cellaviva, you can be sure that the umbilical cord stem cells you have frozen are ready for delivery for treatment in a few days if the need arises.
